Managing Editor
We are seeking a Managing Editor to lead a team in researching, concepting, writing, and editing for magazine, catalog, digital and/or web-based content as directed by the Project Director. The ideal candidate is an expert in English grammar. They are diligent and pay attention to the details to keep team members on track and have a commitment to creating quality and engaging content.

Responsibilities:
Generates and manages editorial briefs, editorial outlines, bookmaps, tracking documents, management oversight vehicles and scheduling tools
Assigns stories and guides writers to produce original, engaging text according to the project’s style guide, tone, voice and editorial goals
Coordinates and participates in brainstorm, progress, assignment and project/team-member oversight meetings
Maintains orderly oversight of others and timely delivery of department’s work
Works with the Test Kitchen for recipe development and attend food panels, as directed by the Project Director
Collaborate with the art department to create editorially and artistically cohesive works that meet established strategy goals
Writes excellent text and interviews industry professionals and celebrities
Drives to locations for research, interviews, photoshoots or other project needs
Research, select and purchase products being considered for editorial features
Follows production schedules and meet deadlines
Flow text and write into digital files, as needed
Copy edits/proofreads all content using digital and hardcopy methods
Use and maintain physical and digital story folders
Demonstrate knowledge, understanding of and respect for media law
Exhibit strong attention to detail, with an understanding and goal of achieving high-level, refined work
Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism or related field
Minimum 5 years’ editorial experience in magazine publishing
Minimum 2 years’ proven team leadership experience
Expert understanding of English grammar
Able to maintain a consistent writing style and proofread articles for grammatical errors, voice/tone and substance in adherence with the Editorial Outline, project style guide and standard style guides (AP and Chicago)
Experience researching and sourcing editorial content; skilled at using reference resources
Solid understanding of trends, timely, relevant stories and viral content
Detail oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills; able to meet deadlines
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to maintain a positive attitude and thrive in a demanding, fast-paced work environment
Able to work collaboratively while maintaining high standards
Knowledge of cuisine, crafting, health and fitness related topics
